Yorkies have become one of the most popular breeds according to the AKC registry with the number of litters and puppies being registered. This is especially true in Michigan and is having a negative impact on the breed because of the poor quality of puppies being offered for sale from questionable sources such as brokers, puppy mills, breeders mixing breeds, and those importing very young puppies from South America puppy mills. Some of these puppy brokers sell yorkie puppies without even the knowledge of the conditions from where they came, then claim innocence because of ignorance, trying to remain respectable in the public eye.

People are also using terms such as Teacup Yorkies to exploit the breed, making it sound as though they are a type of Yorkie, not true. Teacup Yorkies do not exist as a breed and shouldn't ever be advertised as such.

But, with the general public wanting to purchase a Yorkie that have a limited income, they are willing to take the chance on buying a Yorkie Puppy from one of the many puppy sites now on the Internet. There are many sites now on the internet that charge people to list their litters and puppies for sale, including Teacup Yorkies. It is impossible for them to verify the breeders conditions, ethics, quality, or even if they actually have the puppies, those sites are in business ONLY to make money, that is why they have disclaimers about not being held responsible. In my opinion this is no better than purchasing from the News Paper, as many of these Yorkies have health and/or social issues and sadly some never receive the dog after paying for it.

I have also needed to notify Yahoo Classifies and file documents against people showing my dogs as being theirs and/or offering Yorkie Puppies for Sale out of them.
